About

Kariné

When I began my journey as a psychology undergraduate more than 25 years ago, I soon realised that if I wanted to truly understand the human mind - why we think, feel and behave the way we do - I needed to learn about the brain. What began as a desire to understand the mind became a fascinating journey into the science of the brain and behaviour, one that continues to this day and, I suspect, always will.

Along the way, I’ve been fortunate to work in some of the leading neuroscience laboratories in Canada, the US and the UK, meet extraordinary and inspiring people, and undertake my doctoral research at the Institute of Neurology at UCL.

In many ways, my career has now come full circle. After years immersed in the science of the brain and behaviour, I have found my way back to what first drew me to psychology: helping people understand themselves, get unstuck and create meaningful change.

But my understanding of change has not come from science alone. Over the years, I have navigated my own transitions, living across three countries, becoming a single parent, living with chronic illness, and making a significant career transition. These experiences have given me a very personal appreciation of how complex change can be, and how different life can feel when circumstances shift beyond our control.

Today, I bring together what I’ve learned about the brain, the mind and human behaviour with my experience of navigating change. Through workshops and coaching, I want to help you understand yourself differently, explore what matters to you, and find sustainable ways to move forward.

My approach

Not Only Science

My approach sits at the intersection of neuroscience, psychology and coaching, grounded in evidence about the complex interplay between the brain, behaviour and experience.

Neuroscience helps us understand how the brain and body respond to stress, uncertainty and change — and how these experiences can interact with processes involved in attention, emotion regulation, motivation and decision-making. It also shows us that the brain remains capable of changing in response to experience, learning and behaviour throughout life. This capacity for neuroplasticity offers an important perspective on how change can happen, while recognising that it is shaped by each person and their circumstances.

Psychology helps us make sense of the patterns that shape how we think, feel and behave: the beliefs we hold, the stories we tell ourselves, the habits we have developed, and the ways we have learned to respond to what life asks of us.

Coaching brings these perspectives into the here and now, and into your life. It creates space to step back from the busyness of everyday life, understand what may be happening, reflect on what you want to be different, and explore new ways of moving forward.

There is no single formula for change. Our brains, experiences and circumstances differ, and so does the way we respond to pressure and change. Our work begins where you are, and develops from there.
